The A-Sprit currently comes in four models, the AS-30, AS-30R, AS-40 and AS-50. Our carbon fiber bowsprits are custom designed and are as elegant as they are durable. The focus was on creating a light and strong bowsprit that is attractive and easy to use. It is 100% carbon fiber frame with NO CF to metal bonds.
Solid, Triangular Design: Our unique design, with a patent pending up and down articulation, offers sail luff tension adjustment from the cockpit and ease of sail tack attachment and release. The bowsprit geometry was carefully selected to provide the most direct transfer of forces generated by the sails to the hull of your boat. This ensures the safest bowsprit so you can enjoy open ocean sailing and rounding the race course marks with peace of mind. Universal to all A-Sprits:

Material: Carbon fiber parts, bonded using high strength structural epoxy adhesive. There are NO CF to metal bonds, which have a high probability of failure over time.
CF Surface Finish: All CF parts are professionally coated with automotive grade, UV Resistant Clear Polyurethane
Hinge Tube: UV resistant Fiberglass
Attaching Hardware: Marine grade SS

CF Parts Care Recommendation:
Although parts are UV protected we recommend using cover when not in use to prevent sun damage. There are many instructions online for proper CF parts care.

The structural strength of the A-Sprits was validated by an independent engineering company. Calculated loads were compared to actual loads.


Bobstay Rigging

There are many ways to rig the A-Sprit.

Permanently fixed A-Sprit: The simplest rigging is when the A Sprit is used in a permanently extended position without the need for adjustment. Use a fixed length Bobstay with one end attached to the U Bolt and the other attached to the tip of the A-Sprit.

Adjustable Bowsprit: Our A-Sprit’s main design feature is the attachment, which allows it to rotate up and down.

We recommend a 2:1 Bobstay purchase with the control line leading to a clutch in the cockpit. This allows you to take full advantage of our unique design and adjust the sail luff tension or bring the Bowsprit in an upright position (for stowing or changing sails).

A Bungee cord is used to hold the Bowsprit in an upright position or pop it up when the bobstay is released (similar in function to a Pole Topping lift). We recommend the MiniShockleTM from Davis but others can be suitable as well.

A Stop strap is used to keep the bowsprit from pivoting past a predefined angle in case the sail drops to the water. A bungee cord is NOT strong enough for this safety purpose. Please use Flat nylon webbing or similar.
